Obituary

William Wayne Johnson, 70, Sandusky, transitioned from this life on Friday, June 4, 2021, surrounded by family at Firelands Regional Medical Center.
He was born on June 15, 1950, to William Frank and Mary Lee Powe Johnson in Silas, Alabama. Wayne attended Sandusky High School and graduated in 1969. He enlisted in the United States Army on March 31,1971 serving a tour duty in Vietnam. Wayne received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Sharpshooter M-16 Badge. Honorably Discharge on March 30, 1977. Wayne was employed by Erie County CAC, Lowe’s, and was recently employed by Ruffin Refuse.
Wayne had passion for fishing and hunting, as he loved doing so with his family and friends. He gained many lifelong friends on the banks around the lake and many hunting in the woods. In 2012 he ventured out to open Uncle Wayne’s a little store he loved.
Wayne leaves to cherish his children; Sharla (Ricardo) Johnson, Alonzo Bonner, Tammy (Marc)Johnson, Jerel (Antoinette) Henderson, Treka Edwards, Yolanda Henson, William Johnson Jr., Shon Grant, Derek (Nikki) Pilgrim, Aris Brown, Torrance Grissom, Taneshia Johnson, Antwon Jackson, Brock Johnson, Brannon Johnson, Lindsey Clarke, and Rakeem Miller; 58 grandchildren and 52 great grandchildren; brother, Ira (Marlene) Johnson, Stone Mt., GA; five sisters, Cora L. (Robert) Wiggins, Jeanette Harvey, Helen Prophet, all Sandusky; Jayne Tinsley, Louisville, KY, Pastor Christine (Pastor Michael) Hopewell, Clermont, FL; two aunts, Louise Johnson & Claudia Johnson both of Sandusky; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends, Carolyn Amison, Lisa Kraus, Ollie Lewis, Jesse Brown, Knute Rieger, Sid Cisco, and many other friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; grandchildren, Claudio Cossio-Grissom and Alynia Grant; son, Steve Pilgrim; brothers, Frank Victor Johnson, and Jeff Moore Jr. on March 24th, 2021; sisters, Willia Mae Johnson and Priscilla Johnson; son-in-law, Mark Edwards, brothers-in-law; Robert Tinsley and Jimmie Harvey, and niece Tamara “Tammy” Williams.
Friends may call on Friday, June 11, 2021, from 10 A.M. until time of funeral services at 12 P.M. Noon in Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky. Rev. Curtis L. Johnson Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky is handling the arrangements.
