Obituary

Thomas “Tom “ Allen Miller, 70, Castalia, entered the arms of His Lord and Savior on February 22, 2021. He fought a hard battle over the past couple years with his health and passed away at Cleveland Clinic surrounded by family.

Tom was born in Columbiana, Ohio to the late Harold and Helen Mae Miller on October 4, 1950. Tom served in the US Navy as a corpsman during Vietnam for 4 years, 2 months, and 13 days. He spoke humbly about his service and was honored to serve his country; remaining a loyal patriot to the end. Tom married Janet (Rice) Miller on March 20, 1976 and he loved her faithfully for 44 years, 11 months, and 2 days. Having two children together they lived life to the fullest as a family of four. They lived in the Barberton and New Franklin area for most of that time until moving to Castalia in 2020 to be closer to their grandchildren.

Tom was a licensed optician for 42 years and worked at Summit Optical, Davis Eye Center, and Central Optical. During his retirement from the optical field, he worked at NAPA stocking and delivering parts. Everywhere Tom worked, he made great friends and the bonds he made will always be cherished.

Tom loved his family, his country, and most of all his Christian faith. He was an avid music lover, choir member, could play many instruments, and loved his vacuums. He was known for writing great poems and songs about his life, friends, and family. He enjoyed spending times with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Tom made friends with everyone around him and was known for his compassionate, joyful, kind, caring nature.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, loving sister Judy Miller, mother-in-law and father-in-law Michael and Ruth Rice, sister-in-law Elaine Rice, and niece Kathy Rayer. He is survived by his dear wife, Janet; his daughter Melanie Miller, son Christopher (Katelyn) Miller; grandchildren Lexie, Chevy, and Ayden; brother-in-law Dr. David Rice, John (Bonnie) Rice, and Wayne (Jan) Rice; nieces Sarah (John) Lahoski and Laura Rice, nephew Eddie Rice; great nieces and nephews, several cousins and a multitude of close friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cleveland Clinic and Dr.Widmere and his staff for their excellent care during this difficult time. Thank you to all the family and friends that continue to provide support and prayers.

Family and friends may call on Saturday February 27, 2021 from 10am until services start at Noon at Sandusky Church of God, 1018 W. Bogart Rd, Sandusky, Ohio. Reverend Steve Bucy from The Chapel at Green will be officiating services alongside Pastor Samuel Studer. A private family burial at the graveside will occur at a later date. Those wishing to contribute to Tom’s memory may do so through Toft Funeral Home and Crematory or through the GoFundMe that has been set up.
