Obituary

Ronald Eugene Gerold, 73, Sandusky, died Tuesday, April 6, 2021, in Stein Hospice Care Center.

He was born in Sandusky on April 30, 1947 to the late Don and Naomi (Maurer) Gerold, and graduated from Sandusky High School in 1965.

Ron retired from New Departure on April 30, 1999 after 30 years of service.

He was a man of great faith and loved the Lord and to preach his word to anyone who would listen.

He was an accomplished drag racer at Dragway 42 and NRP, and in 1983 he was crowned bracket champion and won a 1983 Mazda RX-7. Ron drove his Mustang “65 Love Affair” to many victories and made lifelong friends along the way. He loved to tease anyone he loved and although he was German, he always had a smile on his face. He was an avid poker player, loved traveling, especially to Frankenmuth, MI. The first love of his life was his wife, Vicki, followed closely by the New York Yankees. He was loved by all and will be missed forever.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of almost 30 years, Vicki (Ramsier) Gerold, to whom he married May 18, 1991; his fur babies, Molly and Daisy; mother-in-law, Laura; sister-in-law, Pam; best friends, Allan and Carolyn Lickfelt; and a host of other friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother in infancy.

Ron’s wish was to be cremated with no services. Inurnment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.

A special thanks to the nurses at Stein Hospice, especially, Denise, for all the love and care given to Ron.

Memorial contributions in Ron’s name may be made to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870 or to Holy Angels Catholic Church, 1605 Jefferson St., Sandusky, OH 44870.

Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be made to the family by visiting toftfuneralhome.com.

Ron and I were like "Brothers from different Mothers". We did everything that two natural brothers would do together. We were together from the time we were old enough to play together to the day he passed away. We were in each other's weddings. We helped each other build our houses, We worked together at New Departure/Delphi. We played poker together and went out to eat together with our wives. Vicki, our prayers are with you. You got a good one and Carolyn and I will miss him dearly.. Rest In Peace Ron. Allan and Carolyn Lickfelt

You’re all in our prayers. Ron was a wonderful man and will be missed. Mike said he remembers Ron and his car from when he was just a little guy at the track. Ron made a lasting impression on a lot of people. He always had a smile. That’s what I remember most of him.
With love
