Obituary

Leonard Charles Knupke, 97, of Sandusky, died Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at The Meadows at Osborn Park following a brief illness.

He was born on October 10, 1923 in Sandusky to the late William and Millie (Retzke) Knupke. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

He worked 48 years for the American Crayon Company, rising to the level of Purchasing Agent. He also worked 22 years for AVI of Sandusky.

Leonard is survived by his daughter, Linda L. Fitch, of Sandusky; grandchildren, Edward (Angela) Fitch V, of Weston, MA, Sean (Deb) Fitch, of Walnut Creek, CA, and Robert (Jamie) Fitch, of Morrow, OH; great-grandchildren, Edward Philip Fitch VI, LiLi Skye Fitch, Aidan Muir Fitch, Robert Arthur Fitch II, and Carter Anthony Fitch; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. (Newton) Knupke, in 1992; sisters, Helen (Perrine) Barnhart, Ruth (Knupke) Carr, Mabel (Knupke) Wobser, and Elsie (Knupke) Wobser; brothers, Alfred, Harold, Ralph, Ernest, Luther, and William Knupke; son-in-law, Edward Philip Fitch IV, in 2013; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Vaschak and the staff at The Meadows for the excellent care of our much-loved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who will always be in our hearts and memories.

Private burial services will take place at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Back to the Wild, 4504 Bardshar Rd., Castalia, OH 44824 or to the Humane Society of Erie County, 1911 Superior St., Sandusky, OH 44870.

Mr. Knupke was such a kind, caring man 💕 We always enjoyed his company while at Shoreway Animal Hospital with his companion, "Mandy" 🐶
