Obituary for Joanne M. Schaffer (McFadden)

Joanne M. Schaffer (nee McFadden) passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Stein
Hospice in Sandusky.

She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 4, 1937, the daughter of Michael F. and Pauline
F. (Boose) McFadden.

Joanne was a graduate of the St. Paul High School class of 1955 and the Providence
Hospital School of Nursing in Sandusky, earning a degree as a registered nurse.
In November 1959, Joanne married James Schaffer. She worked as an RN for many years,
and was the owner/operator of the Shamrock Tavern from 1983 until 2010. She enjoyed
gardening, her weekly paint class, and spending time with her family. She was very devoted
to her faith.

She is survived by her three children, Kathleen Schaffer, Karen (Bud) Brumby, Martin
(Holly) Schaffer; grandson, Thomas Schaffer; sisters, Maureen Spettel, Pauline Schaffer, Rita McFadden, and Kathleen Osborne; brothers, Neil
(Joann) McFadden and Mike (Sue) McFadden, all of Norwalk; sisters-in-law, Pauline Schaffer of Chicago, and Cindy Mc Fadden of Norwalk; brother- in –law, David Stanley, and many beloved nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim in January of 1982; brother, James and
sister-in-law, Dorothy McFadden, brother John McFadden, sister, Margaret Stanley, brothers-
in- law, Brian Schaffer, Clarence Schaffer, Bob Spettel, Richard Osborne, and brother and
sister-in-law, John and Marlene Schaffer.

Per Joanie’s wishes, there will be no visitation. The rosary will be recited at St. Mary
Mother of the Redeemer Church in Norwalk 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022, followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Fr. Krzysztof Kardzis, friend of the family, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Karamalu and the staff of the North
Coast Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center in Sandusky, the Cleveland Clinic of Avon staff, and the staff of Stein Hospice in Sandusky for the wonderful care they gave our mom/grandma.
