Obituary

Elmer A. Eckler, 87, Sandusky, died Friday, January 1, 2021, in Firelands Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Sandusky on August 11, 1933, to the late Elmer and Ruth (Rhode) Eckler.

Elmer worked on the Great Lake Freighters, retired from General Motors in 1999 after 33 years, and worked as a Janitor for Perkins and Huron Schools.

He was a social member of the American Legion Post 83, was an avid sports fan, loved fishing, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathleen S. (Smith) Eckler; sons, Jeffrey Eckler and Gregory Eckler, both of Sandusky; grandchildren, Ashley, Stephanie, and Brent; brothers, Gordon Eckler, Gene (Judy) Eckler, both of Milan, and Alden (Sandy) Eckler, New London; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jennifer Eckler; and a sister, Alice Didion.

A Celebration of his Life will be planned for a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be made to the family by visiting toftfuneralhome.com.
