It is with great sadness that the family of David Charles Wikel, 87, of Sandusky, announce his passing on June 3, 2021.

Dave was born in Milan, Ohio on March 2, 1934.

He was a local businessman in the area all of his life and owned and operated Wikel Manufacturing and other local companies.

Dave is survived by his dear wife, Alice (Hay) Wikel, with whom he has spent many happy retirement years on his beloved Middle Bass Island, where he was an avid fisherman and boating enthusiast. He will be sadly missed by Alice, their grandson, Harry; and all her family, in the USA, Scotland, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada. Also surviving are his three daughters, Tamara, Tana, and Amanda; and sons-in-law, Greg Cook and Phillip Myers; five grandchildren; and is survived by his dear sister, Sara (Mike) O’Neal, of Huron, brothers, Ned (Carol) Wikel, of Swanton, and Dean (Terri) Wikel, Berlin Heights; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lucille Wikel, of Berlin Heights; brother, Neil; sister, Virginia; and his ex-wife, Charlene (Brown), the mother of his daughters.

At his request, cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life gathering at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9 in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, to which all relatives and friends are welcome to attend. Chaplain Mel Sayler will officiate.

Letters and cards of condolence, if desired, should be sent to family members or online at, and any donations should be made in Dave’s name to Shriners Children’s Hospital charity. A private internment of ashes will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Berlin Heights.

May he rest in peace.

*A live webcast will be available on for those who cannot attend in person.*

I will miss Dave. He was from a generation of serious and hard working men. He was kind and generous to me when all I could offer him was friendship from a kid 30 years his junior. I hope there is ice fishing for you in heaven.

Nice words to receive at this time. He worked and played hard on the family farm on Nash Rd. Collins in his youth. Sara(sister)

May this serve as a living tribute to Dave, who left this world a better place and now his memory will live on as this tree blossoms and grows.
