Obituary

Carlos Humberto Calderon, 58, formerly of Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 13, 2021 in his father’s, Carlos Calderon Sr., home in Kissimmee, FL, where he spent the last few years as his father’s caregiver.

He grew up in Sandusky and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in 1981, where he was a member of the Panther wrestling team. A man of faith his whole life, growing up he and his family attended Holy Angels Parish, and he became a member of Saints Peter and Paul Church in 1990. Deeply spiritual, he thoroughly enjoyed attending the Men’s ACTS (adoration, community, theology and service) Retreat, where he fostered great friendships that he maintained even after relocating to Florida. He proudly worked at Ford Motor Company for the majority of his career. Carlos was an avid music lover and often would fill his home with the tunes of rock’n’roll. His favorites included Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews Band, Steely Dan, and Jackson Brown. His love of music was surpassed by only two things: First, his love for his hometown teams. He was an obsessed Indians, Browns, Cavs, Buckeyes and, last but not least, Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan. Second, and above all others, he cherished his family, friends, community, good times, and most of all, his children. He is forever their biggest advocate. Never one to turn down an opportunity to help, he frequently volunteered at Victory Kitchen, various retreats, and numerous blood drives. A man of exquisite taste, Carlos enjoyed going for long walks, admiring nature’s beauty, and slipping some meat to the dog from the dinner table. He was a kind and thoughtful person with a great sense of humor. Carlos always strived to put a smile on your face and get a laugh out of you. These were his favorite ways of expressing God’s love.

Carlos is survived by his son, Angelo; daughter, Julia; father, Carlos Calderon; sister, Carol Barone; brother, Alex Calderon; and many beautiful nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Araminta (Ayala) Calderon; brother, Lee Calderon; father-in-law, Angelo Capizzi; mother-in-law, Katherine Capizzi; and man’s best friend (dog), Amigo Calderon.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, March 26 in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Sandusky, with Fr. J. Christopher Jesudhason officiating. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.

For those who cannot attend, the funeral will be streamed on Julia Calderon's Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/julia.calderon.12).

I had the fortune to know Carlos and got a glimpse of his wonderful caring heart. He offered many times to assist me with needed repairs and I watched as he worked ever so diligently helping his sister, Carol, at whatever task deemed necessary. I know he was loved deeply by family and many friends. He will be remembered by many and missed forever.
